COLUMBIANA – A Vandiver man was recently jailed after he allegedly assaulted a victim and caused her to lose consciousness.

Ryan Lee Brasher, 23, who lists an address on Shelby County 43, was taken into custody by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and charged with domestic violence strangulation on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

According to court documents, Brasher allegedly “choked the victim by placing is hands around her neck until she blacked out” on Feb. 13.

Domestic violence strangulation is a class B felony, which can be penalized by up to 20 years in prison upon conviction.

As of Thursday, Feb. 15, Brasher remained at the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $10,000. His case was assigned to Shelby County District Court Judge Daniel A. Crowson Jr., and the date for a preliminary hearing had not been scheduled.
