PELHAM – About 70 senior citizens from throughout Shelby County gathered at the Pelham Senior Center on Thursday, Dec. 14, for the center’s annual Christmas Luncheon.
Activities coordinator Regina Townsend said the luncheon is an opportunity for area seniors to fellowship during the holidays.
“Most of them have lost spouses, live alone and don’t have the opportunity to celebrate Christmas at their own place, so we want to make it extra special for them,” Townsend said.
During the luncheon, guests enjoyed a variety of Christmas songs performed by husband and wife team, Franko and Barbara Armstrong. The Armstrongs performed for about an hour before lunch was served. Lunch was catered by Dale’s Southern Grill in Hoover.
Pelham Mayor Gary Waters and some members of the Pelham City Council also attended the event.
“I always tell people that our community doesn’t end at the city limits,” said City Council President Rick Hayes. “We appreciate everyone here today, whether you live in Pelham or not.”
Senior Center Director Mary Campbell said luncheon is one of her favorite programs during the holiday season.
“I love seeing everybody get all dressed in their Christmas outfits and they really just have a good time,” she said.
