ALABASTER – The Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the recent opening of the newest Sleep Outfitters store, which is located at 300 Colonial Promenade Parkway in Alabaster, at a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14.
According to store manager Buck Breland, the Alabaster Sleep Outfitters location officially opened to the public on Sept. 1. Since it first opened, Breland said business has been steady.
“It’s been better than we anticipated,” Breland said. “We basically just turned on the lights and opened the door, and we’ve had a lot of business.”
Sleep Outfitters chain is based out of Lexington, Kentucky and is the latest out of 20 stores in Alabama.
Initially, Breland said the company was planning to place the store at the District 31 shopping center that is slated to be built in 2019 before the former location of Rue21 became available at the Promenade. Because of the location, Breland said Sleep Outfitters is making more sales than he expected.
“They were looking at the shopping center that’s being built across the interstate and this location came open,” Breland said. “This here is our southernmost store, so we’re getting customers from places like Clanton, Selma and Verbena.”
Mayor Marty Handlon said the city was happy to see yet another new business open its doors in Alabaster.
“Thank you for locating your business here,” Handlon said. “Our business community is very important to us here.”
“We’re very excited to have you here. Your success is our success,” added Alabama Sen. Cam Ward, who was also in attendance. “You couldn’t ask for a more supportive city government.”
