PELHAM – Keeping with a longstanding tradition, the Pelham Beautification Board will journey through the city on Tuesday, Dec. 5, looking for residents and businesses with the best Christmas decorations and lights display.
City administrator Paula Holly said prizes will be awarded in five categories: best residential, best business, best fire station, honorable mention and the Power Express winner.
The Power Express award will go to the house best resembling Clark Griswold’s house from the movie “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
Any kind of decorations, from lights to bows and ribbons, will be accepted. The winners in each category typically are honored during a January City Council meeting.
Winners will be notified during the week of Dec. 5 and will be posted on the city’s website as well as social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Although members of the Beautification Board will drive throughout the city viewing Christmas décor and lights, residents are welcome to nominate residents and businesses to be considered for an award. Nominations can be made through the city website at https://pelhamalabama.gov/262/Christmas-Light-Judging.
“We have found that residents love this event and they love decorating their homes and putting on a show,” Holly said. “It’s something fun that they take pride in. We would love to have more businesses participate to help spread the joy even more.”
Holly said the Beautification Board is excited to see what residents and businesses come up with this year.
