PELHAM – The Pelham Racquet Club is hosting its first collegiate invitational Nov. 3-5.
Samford University’s men’s tennis team will host the tournament. Men’s teams from UAB, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Tennessee State, Tulane, Mercer and Alabama State are set to participate in the tournament.
The racquet club has hosted adult leagues, women’s pro and junior and senior tournaments, but never a collegiate tournament.
The public is invited to attend the tournament for free.
“This event allows the club to expand its competitive tournament market and bring more people to the area, and it has great potential to expand as well,” said Chaney Mills, the racquet club’s coordinator of tennis development.
The day before the tourney begins, on Thursday, Nov. 2, the racquet club will host a junior clinic featuring college athletes. The clinic will be held from 5-6 p.m. and costs $30 per player.
The participation fee includes a t-shirt and pizza.
The clinic is ideal for USTA team tennis players, USTA tournament players and middle/high school players. The deadline to sign up for the clinic is Wednesday, Nov. 1.
To sign up for the clinic, contact the racquet club at 621-3380.
