COLUMBIANA–The Shelby County Board of Education approved a new human resources supervisor position at its monthly board meeting on Thursday, Oct. 19.
Current Calera High School Principal Joel Dixon was approved to serve as the new human resources supervisor for Shelby County Schools.
Dixon has more than 19 years of experience in education and is currently the principal at Calera High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in english along with a master’s degree in education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and an administrative certification from the University of Montevallo.
Dixon expressed excitement to continue working in the Shelby County School System.
“Board members and Mr. Fuller, I will begin by saying thank you for this opportunity,” Dixon said. “I was thinking about what I was going to say tonight and I keep coming back to a little over nine years ago this board took a chance on a young guy that was an english teacher who thought he wanted to go into administration. In those ensuing nine plus years, I have grown a lot and been surrounded by fantastic teams at two schools and still am with great teachers and support staff around me. I’ve been surrounded by great colleagues and other principals and great mentors from top to bottom.”
The next Shelby County Board of Education meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 16 at 5 p.m.
