HELENA–The city of Helena has approved a bid that will bring a new youth soccer field to the Helena Sports Complex that will be completed sometime before the spring of 2018.
The Helena City Council approved a bid of up to $153,100 at the Sept. 18, council meeting.
The bid was recommended by the Helena Parks and Recreation Department and awarded to Kevin Miller Development.
“The bid of up to $153,100 includes all of the clear-cutting, fine grading the top soil, irrigation, all of the sod, the excavation and it looks like it’s a good number,” Helena City Council President Mike Jones said.
Construction of the new field is set to begin sometime in mid-October or the first of November, and those wishing to play youth soccer will be able to utilize the field in the spring of 2018.
The new youth soccer field comes on the heels of a paved parking lot project that brought 150 new parking spaces to the Helena Sports Complex.
“The good thing is that this is a local company here in Helena,” Helena Mayor Mark Hall said. “He’s done other work for us for the utility board as well and they do a good job.”
The new soccer field will be a regulation youth size soccer field that will be located next to the existing multi-purpose field at the Helena Sports Complex.
The current concession stand located beside the multi-purpose field will also serve as the concession stand for the new soccer field.
