Before home mail delivery, Helena people made a daily trip to the post office to check their rented mail boxes which required a combination to open. While there, folks would often run into neighbors and friends and catch up on all the local news and gossip. This image appeared in the inside cover of the 1963 Indian Springs School yearbook and shows Kenneth Lambert and son Carey along with Danny Minshew, who is pictured in front. At that time, Indian Springs had a Helena address. The building on the right of the post office was the old Odd Fellows Lodge building. (Contributed/City of Helena Museum)
