Alabaster man arrested on child abuse charges

ALABASTER – An Alabaster man was arrested for allegedly abusing a child under the age of 18 on the morning of Friday, Aug. 4.
Fidel Alex Hurtado, 29, who lists an address on Seventh Street Southwest, was arrested and charged by the Alabaster Police Department.
According to his arrest warrant, Hurtado allegedly “torture, willfully abuse, cruelly beat or otherwise willfully maltreat” and underage victim who was under his “care or custody or responsibility” in May.
Abuse of a child younger than 18 years old is a class C felony. If convicted, Hurtado could face up to 10 years in prison and a maximum of $15,000 in fines.
Hurtado is currently being held at the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $15,000. As a condition of his bond, Hurtado is not to have any contact with the alleged victim.
As of 12 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, Hurtado’s mugshot, charges booking date and bond information has not been released on the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office website.
The case was assigned to Shelby County District Court Judge Daniel A. Crowson. A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
