NORTH SHELBY – Two upcoming events at North Shelby Baptist Church will celebrate the beginning of the new school year and the beginning of the church’s Wednesday programming for youth.

The church, which is located at 4100 Belcher Drive in North Shelby County, will host a Back-to-School Block Party from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6.

Children’s and Preschool Minister Julie Donavan said all are invited.

“From babies to seniors—whoever wants to come, there will be something for everyone,” Donavan said.

The event will include face painting and games like 9 Square in the Air and three-legged races.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, corn hole and other outdoor games.

Then, on Wednesday, Aug. 16, North Shelby Baptist will host a Wednesday Night Kick-Off from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

The Kick-Off is intended to provide information about the Wednesday night programming available for children through fifth graders, Donavan said.

“We started it last year, and we’ll continue to do it,” Donavan said. “It just gets everybody excited about the new year, and it gets everybody together.”

The event will include slides, inflatables, games, pizza and other activities.

Information will be available about discipleship classes, the North Shelby fall festival, parents’ night out and other activities.

Donavan said she hopes parents will take advantage of a chance to visit the church, get to know staff members and learn about opportunities.

“We hope there are some people who haven’t been to the church in a while will come back and join us,” Donavan said.

The church also offers Wednesday night services for youth and adults.

“We love one another and support one another,” Donavan said. “We would be happy to add more people to our family.”
