FROM STAFF REPORTS
HELENA–The Helena Beautification Board has announced the winning residence for the June Helena Beautification Award.
The award was given to Monica Josephson and Richard Glover of 118 First Ave. West in Helena.
The board encourages anyone driving through Old Town Helena to be sure to make a quick turn onto First Ave. West to go and take in the beauty of Monica and Richard’s home. Nestled right off the main roads, one is quickly greeted with a lush lawn, flowers, shrubs and art that is surrounding the beauty of the 119 year-old home.
Their landscape consists of a row of forsynthia lining the street edge, confederate Jasmine, boxwoods, roses, daylilies, canalilies and dwarf magnolias. As one pulls up to the home, they will notice the intermixing of flowers and art that bring out the beauty of one another. The corner of the yard greets passers by with a sculpture created by Alabama artist David Hammock. When looking at the front porch, one is quickly drawn to the hanging baskets and swing that welcomes all with a custom piece created locally by JnS Creations. But the art that brings this house to life are the various stained glass windows that have been created and installed by Monica.
Each month, nominations will be accepted until the 25th day with the winner being selected and notified at the first of the following month. The winner of each month will be able to proudly display a yard sign for the month, have their picture and house published on the Helena Beautification website, Helena Beautiful Facebook page and in the local press.
To nominate a home to receive the Helena Beautification Award on July 1, go to Helenabeautiful.com/award.html and submit the address.
