Chelsea man pleads not guilty to sex abuse charges

CHELSEA- A Chelsea man pleaded not guilty to two charges of sexual abuse in the first degree and one charge of sodomy in the second degree and filed a motion to waive an arraignment on Monday, May 15.
Allen Christopher Shirley, 35, who lists an address on Liberty Ridge Road, was arrested on March 22 and released on bonds totaling $195,000 on the same day. According to court documents, Shirley had previously been indicted on March, 8, before he was arrested.
If convicted with sodomy in the second degree, Shirley could face up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $30,000.
Shirley’s indictment states that he allegedly engaged “in devious sexual intercourse with another person by forcible compulsion,” in December 2015 and allegedly did “intentionally subject another person to sexual contact by forcible compulsion,” in December 2015 and January 2017.
Shirley was set for a status call in the Shelby County Circuit Court on Wednesday, May 17.
