PELHAM – Area residents will have an opportunity to honor Pelham’s only fallen police officer while also enjoying a round of golf on Thursday, May 11.
The Philip Mahan Davis Foundation is hosting its annual Philip Davis Golf Tournament at Ballantrae Golf Club at noon on May 11. Prior to the start of the tournament, registration will begin at 10 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11 a.m.
The foundation began hosting the tournament in 2010 in memory of Davis, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop in December 2010 on Interstate 65.
Andy Easterling, who serves on the foundation’s board of directors, said proceeds from the tourney go toward providing assistance to first responders and their families. The foundation offers training for first responders and provides financial assistance and support to the families of fallen first responders.
Last year, the tournament raised about $16,000 for the foundation.
“Our goal this year is to meet that and then some,” Easterling said. “We just want to continue to grow the tournament year after year.”
Registration is $96 per person or $384 per team of four. So far, Easterling said 18 teams of four have registered for the event.
Although the tournament registration form says the last day to register for the event is April 28, Easterling said the hard deadline to register is May 5.
“We can always use volunteers as well,” he said. “If someone doesn’t want to play, but wants to support the foundation – volunteering would be very helpful.”
