Edgar E. “Gene” Pickett, 81 of Alabaster passed away at his home on Sunday, April 23.
Gene was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alabaster. He was Past Master of Corinthian Masonic Lodge 462 of Alabaster (now Buck Creek Lodge 410) and was a member of the Scottish Rite. He loved golfing and Alabama football.
He was a kind man who had a green thumb, a knack for building things and for making people laugh. He worked hard all of his life, but he is now at rest.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nellie (Carlee); son, Ronnie Pickett (Donna); daughters, Lynette Kramer (Jim), and Lisa McDaniel (Jason); grandchildren, Kevin Pickett (Cherie, and great-grand-daughter, Abbey), Amanda Carnehl (Mark), and Andrew Kramer; niece, Stacy Roberts (Jay and their children Lilly and Gray); sisters, Doris Chesser, Annette Byars (James), Jeanette Franklin, brother, Hershel Pickett (Marilyn); numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father Mr. and Mrs. Y. J Pickett; sister, Lorene Roman; brothers, Roy, W.C., Jack and William Pickett.
The family would like to thank New Beacon Hospice for the care and comfort they gave to Gene and Nellie throughout his long illness. Also, special thanks to Ivan and Pat Byford for their kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Buck Creek Lodge F&AM Scholarship Fund, P O Box 333, Alabaster, AL 35007.
Burial service will be held Tuesday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Alabaster. The Rev. Mike Byars will be officiating.
Charter Funeral Home will be directing.
