ALABASTER- First responders from the Alabaster Fire Department and Alabaster Police Department arrived at 8th Avenue Northwest near the Shelby Baptist Medical Center at 6:51 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, after a vehicle was struck by a train.
According to Lt. Grant Humphries from the APD, the crossing arms at the train track had already gone down when the driver tried to maneuver around them.
No deaths or injuries were reported. The tracks were closed briefly, and are currently open.
“The driver wasn’t hit straight on. They were very fortunate,” Humphries said.
Humphries encouraged drivers to be cautious and follow all traffic laws.
“Anytime crossing arms are down, we advise citizens to not try and beat a train. Doing that is dangerous, and could result in serious injuries or death,” Humphries said.
