Community Baptist Church in Maylene will host Night to Shine, a special needs prom event, on Friday, Feb. 10 from 6 to 9 p.m.
“Night to Shine is a prom experience centered on God’s love for people with physical or cognitive disabilities,” organizer Mandy Mealer said. “From the minute they pull up, we will try to make guests feel loved and special. We’re asking for prayer over this event.”
Guests will enter the event on a red carpet and have their pictures taken.
“It will be just like you’re a superstar getting out on the red carpet,” Mealer said.
According to a press release from Community Baptist, guests will “receive the royal treatment.”
Community will also provide a team of professionals to help guests with their hair and makeup. Men will also be able to get their shoes shined.
There is no dress code for the event, but Mealer said she and other organizers are willing to help guests find an outfit for the event.
Music will be provided by a DJ, and dinner will be catered. A limousine will also be on-site to take guests for a ride around the church’s property.
A karaoke station and photo booths will also be set up.
At the end of the event, each guest will listen to a special message from professional athlete Tim Tebow and be crowned as prom kings and queens.
“They’re each special in God’s eyes, and they’re each kings and queens to God,” Mealer said.
Night to Shine is sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, and Community Baptist is one of 350 churches around the world that will be hosting the event on the same day.
This is the first Night to Shine that Community Baptist has hosted. They are the only church in Central Alabama where a Night to Shine event will take place.
“We are honored to be able to work with so many churches across the country and around the world to impact the lives of people with special needs,” said Tim Tebow Foundation Executive Director Erik Dellenback.
