Donald Roland Walton, age 66, of Alabaster, went to spend eternity with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 19.
The visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Elkdale Baptist Church in Selma. The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
Donny was born on April 6, 1950 in Springfield, Mo., to parents Roland Jasper and Harriet Walton. He grew up in Linden, where he was very active in high school sports. He attended Marion Military Institute and Livingston University. He married Diane Green Walton in 1972 and moved to Selma where they lived until 2010 when they moved to Alabaster. While in Selma, Donny was an active member of Elkdale Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Alabaster.
Donny worked for BellSouth/AT&T for 37 ½ years, retiring in 2009. He served as both vice president and secretary–treasurer of 3910 Local CWA in Selma for many years.
Donny was a founding member of the Little Foote Hunting Club in Tilden, where he made lifelong friendships. He was an avid deer hunter and loved the time he spent with both of his sons and his friends at “The Foote.”
Donny was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Jasper and Harriet Latham Walton.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane Green Walton of Alabaster; sons, Bradford G. Walton (Lara Huey) and Kent P. Walton (Lauren Kiker), both of Calera; two granddaughters, Mary Bradford Walton and Handleigh E. Walton, both of Calera; a brother, G. Shane Walton (Catherine) of Louisiana; special aunt, Louise Elrod of Wetumpka; and a sister-in-law, Connie Chaffin (Mark) of Roswell, Ga.
Donny’s family will remember him as a loving husband, devoted father, a special grandfather, and as a man who treasured time with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to charities dear to his heart: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and Wounded Warriors.
