HOPE HULL – Evangel continued its impressive win streak on Friday night, Sept. 23rd as the Lightning won their 17th-consecutive game via a 32-0 shutout over AISA Hooper Academy. The Lightning had 370 yards of offense and posted their first shutout of the season as well.
Evangel senior do-everything quarterback Micah Murphy had 287 yards from scrimmage in the game, 177 rushing and 110 passing, and accumulated three touchdowns as well. Brad Baggett, Murphy’s backfield and classmate, scored twice on the ground as well and was the recipient of Murphy’s touchdown pass.
Evangel took complete control of the game on its third possession of the first half, when the Lightning ran the ball 13 straight times, covered 83 yards and chewed up six minutes and 43 seconds of clock en route to a touchdown and a 19-0 lead.
To this point in the season Evangel is averaging 40 points per game and giving up just 10, and is one of just two remaining unbeaten teams in the county. The Lightning travel to take on upstart Cornerstone Christian on Sept. 30 in a battle that will establish the pecking order of the AISA and ACSC programs in the county.
