Katie Pauline Niven Sanders, 94 of Alabaster, was born March 30, 1922 in Wilsonville and was called home to be forever with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 19.
She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Pelham where she was active in Sunday school, senior adults, mission trips and the church nursery department. She was a kind, loving and generous mother and grandmother and gracious to all. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling and, most of all, the special gift for loving and caregiving to the many children she cared for at Mother’s Day Out.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer A. Sanders; a son, Danny Joe Wheeler; parents, Walter B. Niven and Kate West Niven; sisters, Mary Valona Niven, Lucille Marie Sylier, Clara Emma Niven, Margaret Niven, Anna Lee Ricks, and Bettye Jean Martin; and brothers, Lloyd Bennett Niven, Donald West Niven, and Lawrence Edward Niven.
Survived by sons, Larry N. Wheeler (Elizabeth), and Roger N. Wheeler (Marci); daughter, Nancy W. Youngblood (Roger); sister, Evelyn Mayo; eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and church family and friends.

She retired from Hancock Fabrics, Hoover, and Mother’s Day Out at First Baptist Church Pelham.
Celebration of her life will be at Bolton Funeral Home on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. with visitation from 12:30-2 p.m. Burial will be at Johnson Cemetery.
