Vernon Layfayette Waldrop, age 83, of Wilsonville, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lillian Waldrop, and his brothers, Richard E. Waldrop and James O. Waldrop.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie J. Waldrop of almost 62 years; children, Teresa Ray (Pat) and Harold Waldrop; grandchildren, Matt Lansford (Carla), Pepper Bentley (Aaron), Jon Ray (Courtney), and Nicki Waldrop; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Nathan, and Riley Lansford, Austin and Allysah Henderson, and Emma and Cooper Bentley; brother, T.J. Waldrop (the late Dean Waldrop); sister, Janett Smith (Zane); sister-in-law, Bernice Waldrop (the late Richard E. Waldrop); sister-in-law, Jewel Waldrop (the late James O. Waldrop); and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He served his country during the Korean War. He was a member and deacon of Providence Baptist Church in Harpersville.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16 at South Shelby Baptist Church with Rev. David Williams, Rev. Tom Minor, and Rev. David Warren officiating. Special music will be provided by Jon Ray, Brett Sanders, Terry Greene, and Frank Elgin. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15 at Bolton Funeral Home. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the caring staff of Comfort Care Hospice.
