From Staff Reports
Four Westover municipal government seats will be contested in an election Aug. 23.
Mark McLaughlin, who has been mayor of Westover for 12 years, will be challenged for the seat by Larry Riggins, who has held the City Council Place 2 seat for 15 years.
Vying for the vacated Place 2 seat will be Wayne Jones and Branon King.
The Place 3 seat is being sought by 12-year incumbent Annette Tyler and Frankie Chappell Osborn.
Another 12-year incumbent, Jeanne Champion-Fisch, will be challenged by Paul Grater for the Place 5 seat.
With no opposition, Dr. James Crisman will return to the Place 1 seat he has held for six years.
Seven-year Councilman Kermit Ingle will not seek re-election for the Place 4 seat.
Susan Lane was the only person to qualify for the Place 4 seat, so she is guaranteed a spot on the council.
All residents will vote from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Westover City Hall, which is located at 3312 Westover Road.
Anyone needing an absentee ballot should contact Clerk Marie Mallory at 678-3375, or visit WestoverAlabama.org.
The qualifying period for the election ended July 19.
