PELHAM— A Montevallo man is facing three felony counts of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12, after he was arrested by the Pelham Police Department July 7, according to Lt. Pat Cheatwood.
After an incident of alleged sexual abuse was reported to the Pelham Police, Cheatwood said 36-year-old Irwing Jaramillo-Teodoro became the focus of the investigation.
He said enough evidence was gathered to charge Jaramillo-Teodoro with three counts of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 years old.
According to court documents, the suspect allegedly inappropriately touched and photographed an under-aged victim multiple times between November 2015 and February 2016.
Cheatwood said this is an ongoing investigation and additional charges may be filed in the future.
Jaramillo-Teodoro, who lists an address in the 100 block of County Road 1012 in Montevallo, is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $90,000.
Sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 is a Class B felony, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
The suspect’s preliminary hearing was set for Aug. 11 at 8:30 a.m.
