Col. Nancy Ann Graf
Tuscaloosa

Col. Nancy Ann Graf, United States Air Force (Ret), departed from us peacefully in her home in Tuscaloosa on Monday evening, May 9, surrounded by her sisters, brothers, family and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Stanley Graf and Grace Crawford Graf.

Nancy’s siblings are Mary Catherine Lundell (Bob), Oscar Stanley Graf, Jr., Frances Ada Graf and Edward William Graf.

Nancy’s life began in Selma on Feb. 8, 1943, as her father was overseas fighting in the war. Like her father, Nancy served her country in the Air Force and the Air National Guard in Battle Creek, Mich., rising to the rank of Colonel.

In 1987, Nancy earned the distinction of being the highest-ranking female officer of the Administrative Branch and first female base commander.

Nancy was also an accomplished trainer of award winning Quarter Horses, which she raised on her farms at Charlotte and Vermontville, Mich. Of her many achievements, she will be remembered most for her selfless life, serving as a mentor and a blessing to all whose lives she touched. Her family is grateful for her profound and significant life, taking comfort that Nancy slipped her surly bonds of earth to the reward of a glorious and everlasting life with her parents, animals and Heavenly Father.

At Nancy’s request, there will be no formal service.
