PELHAM— The Greater Shelby Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for Mr. Bugg’s Pest Control May 10 to celebrate the businesses new location off U.S. 31.
Mr. Bugg’s has been in Pelham since 1984, according to owner David Kellis, and recently moved from Lee Street to Pelham Parkway in mid-March. General Manager Susan Taylor said they decided to hold off on the ribbon cutting until all the final touches were complete.
“The economy has been rather difficult for a lot of companies, and we are so thrilled to not only be here but to continue to be growing and increasing our revenue and our customer base,” Taylor said. “We feel that the Lord has blessed us—all things are possible with him on your side. Also our clients, we feel so honored that they have trusted us to take care of not only their homes but their families.”
The company, which started in Montgomery, is also celebrating its 36-year anniversary.
Mr. Bugg’s offers full service pest control including all kinds of pests, termites and wildlife, such as raccoons and snakes. Taylor said Mr. Bugg’s also offers mosquito reduction services, which is a more unique service.
“It required a lot of special education, specialized treatment and special licenses to allow us into that endeavor, but we feel like it was a very beneficial aspect we could offer our customers,” she said.
Kellis said he has 24 employees in his Pelham location and four more in McCalla. Mr. Bugg’s serves St. Clair, Chilton, Jefferson and Baldwin counties in addition to Shelby County and the Greater Birmingham Area
“I like the fact that we are local. My employees work in the same communities that we service,” Taylor said. “As much as possible, we like to use local vendors…I like investing in the community, and I think that’s also part of it. When you invest in something, it comes back to you.”
