PELHAM— If you have an interest in serving on Pelham’s Board of Education, the city is currently taking applications for Place 3 and Place 4 through April 8. The selected candidate would serve for the next five years in a volunteer position.
Pelham’s school board announced the resignation of Dr. Barbara Regan, who currently holds Place 4 on the board, at a March 21 meeting.
While Regan is not in ill health, Board of Education President Rick Rhoades said her resignation letter states that Regan and her physician decided it was in her best interest to resign.
“We do regrettably have to say goodbye to Dr. Barbara Regan,” Rhoades said at the meeting. “She’s a great person and has done a tremendous amount for this board. We all love her dearly and wish her the very, very best.”
Regan’s resignation was effective March 18.
Brian Long currently holds Place 3 on the school board. His term expires June 2016, and as of March 23 he said he plans on reapplying for the position.
School Board Member Paul Howell’s term will expire in June 2019 and Board President Rick Rhoades’ term will expire in June 2018. All board members will be eligible for reappointment after their terms expire.
Applicants must reside in Pelham and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates cannot be employed by the Pelham Board of Education, serve on the governing board of a private elementary or secondary education institution, be on the national or state sex offender registry or have previously been convicted of a felony.
