UPDATED: Sterrett man charged with murder after alleged assault on pregnant ex-girlfriend

HOOVER—A Sterrett man has been charged with capital murder after an alleged assault on his ex-girlfriend that resulted in the death of her unborn baby, Hoover police said.

The Hoover Police Department received a report of an assault on Larkspur Drive, off of Alford Avenue, Tuesday evening, March 15. When police responded to the scene around 6:35 p.m., they encountered the visibly injured 28-year-old female victim.

“She appeared to have significant injuries and was treated on the scene and transported to UAB Hospital by a Fire Department Rescue unit,” a March 15 news release from the Hoover Police Department read.

The victim informed first responders she was seven months pregnant, however the unborn child did not survive, the Hoover Police Department said.

The victim identified her attacker to police as 29-year-old Sterrett resident, Christopher Ammons Kemp, her ex-boyfriend.

The Hoover Police Department issued an area-wide BOLO alert for Kemp.

Birmingham Police officers and a Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office investigator apprehended Kemp “as he was leaving a home in the 200 block of 23rd Terrace NW in Center Point at around 1:30 a.m. on March 16, the Hoover Police Department said.

Kemp was taken into custody in the Center Point before being transferred to the Hoover City Jail. He was transported to the Jefferson County Jail on March 16.

Kemp has been charged with capital murder for the death of the unborn baby. He has also been charged with first-degree domestic violence. He is being held without bond.
