INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team earned its seventh consecutive berth to the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament and its 11th bid in the past 13 years after earning an at-large bid as the No. 6 seed in the Southeast Region.

Montevallo will face Wingate University, the No. 3 seed, in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament quarterfinals Saturday, March 12 at the B. Frank “Tex” Turner Arena on the Lincoln Memorial University campus in Harrogate, Tennessee.

Tip off time is to be determined.

The NCAA Division II Southeast Region tournament semifinals will be held Sunday, March 13, followed by the region tournament championship game Tuesday, March 15. The Southeast Region tournament champion will advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, which will be held March 23-26 in Frisco, Texas.

The Falcons (19-9) clinched at least a share of the Peach Belt Conference West Division Championship for a fifth consecutive season.

Montevallo is facing Wingate for the first time in program history in the Southeast Region quarterfinal contest. The Bulldogs, who enter the region tournament with a 22-9 overall record, finished third overall in the South Atlantic Conference regular season standings and advanced to the conference tournament championship game before falling to Lincoln Memorial.

Lincoln Memorial, the No. 1 seed in the Southeast Region, will host the tournament.

The Falcons own a 22-10 all-time record in the tournament. Montevallo advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 for the eighth time in program history last season before falling to the University of Mount Olive in the Southeast Region championship game.

Montevallo owns three region tournament championships in the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Falcons captured back-to-back South Region championships during the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons and took home the Southeast Region title during the 2011-2012 season on the way to their first ever appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championship game.

All 11 of the Falcons’ appearances in the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament have come under the direction of head coach Danny Young.
