WILSONVILLE— Every month, the faculty of Wilsonville Elementary School holds an assembly to recognize students who demonstrate integrity as good citizens within the school.
Two students from each classroom at the school were recognized as February’s good citizens Feb. 26. WES principal Maria Tidmore had each of the students name a characteristic of a good citizen after they were all named.
The good citizens were Evelynn Clark, Kash Humphreys, Aubrey Cotney, Noah Dunnaway, Keven Corbin, Chloe Hughes, Cailin Wolff, Haile Falcon, Jackson Moore, Judson McKinney, Kevin Davis, Bree Hausler, Michael Clark, Saige Griffin, Liam Rary, Taylor Harley, Carson Frey, Grace Stevenson, Blaine Bannick, Coke Sykes, Jacob McGaha, Carson Roland, Gena Kennamer and Austin Henderson.
Tidmore said the students and parents enjoy having the opportunity to celebrate being good citizens together each month.
Deputy Patrick Bloom also announced the February Junior Deputies, a group of children who demonstrated integrity during the month. Those students will participate in a special lunch with Bloom in March.
The February deputies were Gabbie Harris, Autumn Harvey, Michael Sanders, Owen Kennamer, Elsa Harper, Savannah Lawley, Frankie Limon, Skye Thomas, Carson Lord, Joseph Sanders, Emily Abbott and Alyssa Oliver.
Participants in the Mercedes Kids Marathon were also recognized during the February assembly. Dr. Stephen Kearley, who completed the half-marathon this year, explained all those students accomplished this year.
“These kids ran 26.2 miles this year,” he said. “They did their final mile in Birmingham at the actual Mercedes Marathon course. Next year, I want to see twice as many participants.”
Allysah Henderson, Kevin Corbin, Kevin Davis, Catelynn Davis, Landon Eskridge, Spencer Decker, Garrett Eskridge, Alex Gillum, Blake Jennings, Emma Grace Ray, Riley Lansford, Camille Sykes, Cole Sykes and Nick Sykes all completed the marathon.
Each participant was given a Mercedes Marathon T-shirt and everyone who completed the final mile in Birmingham and crossed the Mercedes Marathon finish line was awarded a special finishers medal.
The next good citizen assembly will be held March 25 at 1 p.m.
