Spain Park softball goes 2-1 over weekend

The Spain Park softball Lady Jaguars moved to 5-3 on the year after going 2-1 on Saturday, Feb. 27. Spain Park beat Daphne 4-2 before beating West Blocton 2-1 to start the day, the lost to Marbury 2-1 as well.

 

Game 1. Spain Park 4 – Daphne 2

The Lady Jaguars fell into an early 2-1 hole after the first inning of the first game of the day against Daphne. The 2-1 lead held until the third inning, when Hope Maddox put the second pitch of the inning in play to left field for a single before Haley Hickman came on to pinch-run, and scored later in the inning when Julianna Cross singled to right field to tie the game at 2-2. Cross singled again in the top of the fifth, which scored Casey Kizer from third, giving Spain Park the lead for good, and one more run in the top of the sixth solidified the win.

Kate Campbell pitched a complete came for Spain Park, throwing 67 pitches over six innings. Campbell gave up eight hits and two runs while striking out one batter.

 

Game 2. Spain Park 2 – West Blocton 1

In the second game of the day, Spain Park beat West Blocton in a low-scoring game 2-1. The Lady Jaguars scored one run in each the first and second innings before holding on for the win. Maddie Majors singled off the first pitch of the game and later scored in the top of the first when Mary Katherine Tedder hit a double to left field. Hickman scored in the top of the second when Majors again singled to right field to give Spain Park its second run of the game. The Lady Jaguars then held on for the 2-1 win.

Campbell again took the mound and pitched a complete game for the Jaguars, as she threw 94 pitches over five innings, giving up four hits and one run while striking out two.

 

Game 3. Spain Park 1 – Marbury 2

Spain Park scored in the top of the first inning when Majors scored from third when Caroline Parker grounded out to first. However, Marbury scored a run in the second and fourth innings to win the game.

Campbell yet again threw a complete game for Spain Park, throwing 67 pitches, giving up six hits and two runs, one of them earned, while striking out three.
