MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo Office of Partnerships and Outreach is pleased to announce the creation of two new academic summer camps, Coding Camp and ACT Prep Camp. These newly created academic camps are in addition to the already established Young Musicians Camp and Mural Camp.
“In recent efforts to strengthen our collaborative resources for youth, University faculty and staff, community leaders and school officials overwhelmingly expressed a need for both a Coding Camp and an ACT Prep Camp,” said Kelli Holmes, director for the office of partnerships and outreach. “The University strives to be a resourceful community partner and we’re thrilled to be able to offer these camps.”
Coding Camp, being held July 11-14, is designed to engage campers in activities that will introduce them to coding and help them understand how coding concepts can relate to critical thinking skills. Throughout this one-week event, campers will participate in stimulating, hands-on, educational activities at a variety of sites on the University of Montevallo campus and the greater Montevallo community.
ACT Prep Camp, being held from May 31-June 3 and June 6-9, will provide students with content and test-taking strategy uniquely timed to better prepare them for the ACT test being given on June 11. Materials provided to participants will include actual test questions from the past two years ACT tests.
Young Musicians Camp, currently in its 13th year is being held June 12-17. This one-week residential camp provides those having at least one year of musical training with superior instruction combined with the fun and friendship of a great summer camp.
Mural Camp, currently in its third year, is being held June 6-10 and June 20-24. A partnership between the University of Montevallo and the Montevallo Arts Council, this camp is designed for students entering fifth through 12th grades who are interested in creating art in a community setting.
