Shelby men charged with trafficking marijuana

SHELBY – Two Shelby men were charged with felony marijuana trafficking in late January.
Donald Ray Sheffield Sr., 71, and Donald Ray Sheffield Jr., 37, were arrested and booked in the Shelby County Jail on Jan. 27 after they allegedly “knowingly (did) sell, manufacture, deliver or bring into this state, or knowingly have in actual or constructive possession … in excess of one kilo or 2.2 pounds” of marijuana near the 1500 block of Highway 311 in Shelby on June 23, 2015, according to court documents.
Sheffield Sr. and Sheffield Jr. allegedly had in their possession 2,130 grams, or nearly 4.7 pounds, of marijuana.
Both men, who list an address in the 1500 block of Highway 311 in Shelby, were released from jail Jan. 28 on bonds of $100,000 each. They are set to appear in court March 14 at 8:30 a.m.
Trafficking marijuana is a Class A felony. If convicted, the men could face 10 years to life in prison.
