NORTH SHELBY—With clubs, computer classes, fun programs and thousands of books, the North Shelby Library has a lot to offer. On Feb. 6, families are invited to explore what’s going on at the library during Take Your Child to the Library Day.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors to the library will get to participate in games and crafts, enjoy snacks, browse the extensive collection of books, get a taste of some of the library’s clubs and sign up for a library card.
“We’re really excited about this,” Children’s Librarian Savannah Kitchens said. “It’s a national campaign to bring awareness to the library.”
Kitchens said she hopes the Feb. 6 event will introduce people to not just the library’s book collection, but also the available resources and activities beyond books.
“We want out community to know we’re here for them, this is their library,” Kitchens said.
The North Shelby Library offers, books, programs and clubs for all ages, from early childhood, to high school and on through adulthood.
“We are 100 percent in favor of reading to your child as early and as often as possible,” Kitchens said, noting the library’s new 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. “It’s getting their brains ready to read.”
As kids get older, there are a variety of other ways they can enjoy the library, including through clubs such as the library’s Lego Club, story times and homeschool programs. Kitchens also noted the library’s popular summer reading programs and age-specific books.
The library isn’t just for kids and it’s not just about books. The library offers a number of computer classes for adults, from computer beginners to those wanting to learn more about technology.
