FROM STAFF REPORTS
Alabama high schoolers looking to strengthen their leadership skills and agricultural knowledge are invited to the Aspire Youth Leadership Conference on July 12-14 in Columbiana.
The conference is sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation, Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, Alabama Council of Cooperatives, Alabama Poultry & Egg Association, Alabama FFA and Alabama 4-H.
Jennifer Himburg of the Alabama Farmers Federation said the conference’s goal is two-fold.
“We want to develop Alabama’s youth while also strengthening their understanding for agriculture,” said Himburg, Young Farmers director. “Agriculture-related fields are high in demand and pay. By investing in students, we’re investing in Alabama’s future.”
Students must be 15-17 years old as of June 30 to attend the conference and must include an application (found at Alfayoungfarmers.org), a letter of reference and a 4-by-6-inch photo.
Tuition is covered for attendees.
The deadline to apply is March 15. Students will be selected by a panel of representatives from sponsoring organizations and notified April 15 via email.
The class is capped at 80 attendees, but students not selected may reapply next year.
