Vincent outlasts Shelby County in double OT
It took two extra periods to sort this one out, but the No. 1 team in 2A continued winning and beat in-county foe Shelby County for the second time this season, this time by a final of 65-59. Vincent was down four with two minutes left in regulation before pushing the game to its first overtime. Stephen Campbell hit two free throws in the second overtime with 19 seconds left to force a second extra period, and in the second extra period Campbell had eight points to lead Vincent to a close victory. The Yellow Jackets advanced to 18-4 while Shelby County fell to 6-11.
Oak Mountain beats Thompson, again
Led by Payton Youngblood’s 19 points and nine board, Oak Mountain beat Thompson for the third time this season at home by a final of 58-44. The Eagles moved to 16-7 (4-1) with the win while Thompson fell to 13-9 (2-3). Oak Mountain has a chance to win the regular season area championship with a win over Hoover on Friday night.
Pelham beats John Carroll for second time
Alex Reese finished with 33 points (14 coming via dunk) and 14 rebounds as Pelham raced past John Carroll Catholic 68-49 to continue his incredible junior campaign. With the win Pelham moved to 14-7 (4-1) and will play Homewood on Friday for a chance at the area title.
Chelsea squeaks past Montevallo on senior night
Chelsea went into Montevallo on Tuesday night and came out with a tight, 70-68 win. The Hornets were led by Matt Marquet, who finished with 15 points, and Aaron Washington and Joseph Lanzi, who both finished with 12. Tavarus Hall led all scorers with 24 points for Montevallo.
Lady Wildcats beat Vincent on road
Shelby County traveled to Vincent to face the Lady Yellow Jackets for the second time this season. In the second meet, the Lady Wildcats made short work of the host team, beating Vincent by a final of 55-38, holding the Lady Yellow Jackets under 40 points.
Thompson girls boat race Oak Mountain in second half
After a tough two weeks that saw Thompson drop three of four games, the Lady Warriors were able to bounce back with a win over Oak Mountain thanks to a strong second half. Up just three points at halftime, Thompson outscored the lady Eagles 40-15 in the second half to win going away by a final of 61-33. Jordan Lenoir had 19 to lead all scorers and Kahyanne Bolton added 15. Thompson moved to 17-6 (2-3) with the win while Oak Mountain moved to 7-11 (0-5).
Lilly puts up 42 against Chelsea
On senior night in Montevallo, it was a sophomore that stole the show when Lauren Lilly went off and scored 42 points to lead Montevallo over Chelsea by a final of 55-46. Lilly scored 76 percent of the Lady Bulldogs points on senior night as Montevallo moved to 17-5 on the season.
