MONTEVALLO – University of Montevallo senior Terrell Lipkins scored a game-high 27 points as the Falcons handed Young Harris College its first loss of the season in Peach Belt Conference play following a 79-59 win over the Mountain Lions in a conference contest Jan. 13 at Trustmark Arena.

The Falcons shot better than 80 percent from the floor in the first 10 minutes of the game and raced out to a 32-13 lead with Lipkins providing 11 points in the early run.

The Mountain Lions managed to trim the deficit to 41-31 heading into the break at halftime when C.J. Wilson converted a three-point play with 52 seconds remaining in the half.

Young Harris cut the Falcons’ lead to 44-35 following a jumper by Marcellus Roberts with 17:19 remaining in the game. Montevallo responded with a 11-2 run and took a 55-37 lead following a layup by junior Taylan Whitaker with 14:32 left in the second half.

The Falcons led by as many as 25 points in the second half when senior Malik Fields knocked down a pair of free throws with 3:39 remaining in the contest to give Montevallo a 77-52 advantage.

STAT OF THE GAME

Montevallo recorded a season-high 22 assists on 32 made field goals in the contest, while Young Harris registered an assist on just six of 21 made field goals.

BEYOND THE NUMBERS

Senior Terrell Lipkins made a career high 12 field goals in the Falcons’ victory after shooting 12-of-18 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. He also tied his season high with eight assists in the win.
