PELHAM— A Pelham man was taken into custody Jan. 3 after allegedly discharging a .22 caliber rifle in a Chandalar townhome Oct. 14, 2015, according to Pelham Lt. Pat Cheatwood.
Omar Hassan, 27, was allegedly in a townhome when the rifle went off into the wall and shot through into the adjoining home, according to Cheatwood. He stated that the shot did not appear to be intentional, but residents were in the townhome at the time of the incident.
“There’s a lot of danger there,” he said. “Somebody could have been sitting on the other side there.”
Cheatwood said the Pelham Police Department issued an arrest warrant Oct. 15, 2015, but Hassan wasn’t apprehended until Jan. 3.
Hassan is being held in the Shelby County Jail on a bond of $15,000. Discharging a gun into an occupied dwelling is a Class B felony.
According to Alabama state law, the suspect could spend up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
