Thompson middle school boys, girls win bowling title

PELHAM – The first year of championship middle school bowling concluded on Wednesday with the Metro Championship tournament, which was held at Oak Mountain Lanes in Pelham. Teams that competed in the tournament included Simmons, Bumpus, Mountain Brook, Pizitz, Liberty Park, and Thompson.
Both Thompson boys and girls teams were crowned Metro Champions for the 2015 season in a convincing manner.
Each team entered the tournament as the top seed in their respected divisions by way of their regular season records. The girls ended the regular season with a record of 7-1, and the boys’ regular season record was 11-1.
In the girls division, the TMS team rolled over Mountain Brook in the semi-finals by a score of 692 to 412 to advance to the championship round. In the championship round, the TMS girls swept Liberty Park in three straight games to take the championship. The high game for the girls team was Alyssa Keaton with a 122.
In the boys division, the TMS team defeated Bumpus in the semi-finals by a score of 949 to 705 to advance to the championship round. The boys went on to beat Pizitz Middle School in three straight games to take the championship. The high game for the boys team was Caleb Farmer with a 169.
Alyssa Keaton, Maggie Smith, Miranda Dean, Emylene Hernandez, Gillian Baker and Kathryn Jackson were the members of the girls’ team. Brian Barcoma, Jacob Farmer, Rand Willis, Asher Smith, Jacob Acker, Patrick Landry, Landon Masters and Cameron DeCord were members of the boys’ team.
The coaches of the middle school teams were Chris Hollingsworth and Michael Craycraft.
