ALABASTER – Those looking to take a tour of the most dazzling residential Christmas light displays in Shelby County’s largest municipality recently got a little help from the city.
On Dec. 2, the city of Alabaster published a map outlining the location of “homes in Alabaster who go beyond the norm with their holiday decorations,” according to the city’s Facebook page.
Over the past few weeks, the Alabaster Beautification Board has been accepting nominations from homes electing to be included on the list, according to Alabaster City Manager George Henry.
After the Beautification Board collected the nominations, the city mapped out the homes with the most dazzling lights before publishing them as a guide to area residents.
Among the list of 15 homes is 1813 Arrow Drive, which has been a region-wide attraction for the past several years. Since 2007, the Richardson family has constructed an array of more than 30,000 lights synchronized to Christmas tunes broadcast over a short-range FM transmitter.
After pulling up to the house, cars can tune to 88.3 FM to hear the house’s holiday music. The thousands of lights on and around the family’s house then illuminate in different patterns to the music.
It takes the Richardsons between two and eight hours per one minute of music to synchronize the tunes with the light display. During the weeks leading up to Christmas – especially on Christmas Eve – hundreds of vehicles line up to view the light display.
In addition to the Arrow Drive house, the following Alabaster homes and streets also go above and beyond while decorating for the holidays:
-341 Dogwood Trail
-100 Forest Parkway
-412 Cornwall Drive
