PELHAM— Members of the Pelham Church of God will host two special guests for the community Dec. 4. Geraldine Ragan and her little wooden friend, Ricky, will perform their ventriloquist act at the church.
Since 1967, Ragan and Ricky have visited congregations performing for audiences internationally. Angie Purvis, who booked the duo for the church, said she gave Geraldine a few names of church members for Ricky to use in the show.
The show includes gospel, songs and humor to teach audience members to laugh while also instilling a message of faith.
“It’s a good family event to attend and it’s right here at Christmas time, so I think it’s going to be a good time,” Purvis said.
Purvis first heard of the Geraldine and Ricky show through an article in the Shelby County Reporter. She said she tried to book the show for about two years before she was able to get them.
The show will begin at 7 p.m. and there is no cost to attend, although the church will be accepting monetary gifts that will be given to Ragan after the program.
Purvis said the whole church has been preparing for the event by putting up flowers and spreading the word through the local newspapers.
Although Purvis hasn’t seen Ragan and Ricky perform in person, she has looked the comedic duo up on YouTube. She said she really enjoyed the performances she saw.
“I think she’s good,” Purvis said. “She’s got a good message to give and we are really looking forward to it.”
She said they have no idea what kind of crowd to expect, but they are excited to see the show Ragan and Ricky put on.
