NORTH SHELBY – The Hewitt-Trussville Lady Huskies improved to 3-1 on the season with a win against the Oak Mountain Lady Eagles on Friday night. The Lady Eagles basketball team struggled mightily on offense, as they couldn’t find the basket or keep pace with the sharp shooting, fast-paced Huskies. After a tight first quarter, the game was never close again.
Both teams struggled to get their footing in the first period, as Hewitt-Trussville squeaked out to only a 10-5 lead after one. However, in the second quarter, the Huskies turned up the heat on both offense and defense as the Eagles simultaneously went cold shooting. This resulted in a 14-0 run for the Huskies during the second quarter, which gave them a commanding 24-5 lead heading into the locker room. This was a lead they never relinquished.
Oak Mountain recovered during the third quarter after Kennedy Smith showed a tough, fighting spirit and a warmer shooting hand, leading Oak Mountain in scoring in the third quarter with seven points. The Eagles outscored the Huskies 12-5 during the third period, cutting significantly into their large lead. At this point, down only 29-17, the Eagles found themselves in a more manageable situation to mount a comeback, but could not get any closer in the fourth quarter, and lost 44-25.
