HELENA–The Helena Lady Huskies basketball team got their second win of the season on Nov. 19 after defeating the Pelham Lady Panthers 65-43.

The Huskies were led by Jordan Brown’s 16 points as well as Jen Brown, who also added 15 points in the win.

Helena head coach Alan Skinner was happy with the way his team progressed from their first game to the second.

“We rebounded the ball better and we finished shots and finished plays,” said Skinner. “I’m proud to death of those girls, they played hard and that’s the biggest thing. At practice, the back of our shirts say ‘do your job’ and everything you do take pride in it and do it wide open.”

The game was special to many of the Helena players who transferred from Pelham years before when Helena became a new high school and Skinner opted to do something special for the five girls who transferred.

“I let the five girls that came over here from Pelham go out as my captains because I knew it meant a lot to them to play in the game,” said Skinner.

Helena broke open the game in the third quarter when the Lady Huskies outscored Pelham 25-7 and the deficit was too much for the Lady Panthers to overcome.

Helena scored in a variety of ways en route to the double-digit victory.
