HOOVER—Divorce can be a difficult experience for both adults and children. Inverness Vineyard Church’s Divorce Care is designed to help individuals and families heal and face the feelings that come along with a divorce.
Divorce Care is a 13-week, Bible-based course of study covering the feelings of anger, depression and loneliness that may follow a divorce, new relationships, forgiveness, moving on and more. Participants receive a course workbook with tips and techniques to deal with the challenges of divorce and accompanying scripture verses.
“It refers you back to scripture, that puts you back to the place you need to be with God,” Divorce Care leader Janis Teller explained.
In addition to being an educational course, Divorce Care also provides participants with a network of support.
“One of the first things (they realize) is, they’re not alone,” Teller said. “They come into it knowing there are other people who feel just like they do.”
Following a divorce, many people struggle with feelings of worthlessness. Through support and Biblical teachings, Divorce Care aims to rebuild self confidence and help people move on with their lives.
“A lot of these people have been devalued,” Teller said. “We bring it back to that God created you, you are a beautiful human being.”
Divorce Care also offers a specialized group for children ages five to 12.
“They too get angry, depressed and sad,” Teller said.
The class runs in conjunction with the adult class and encourages children to talk and express their feelings through creative mediums such as music and art.
