DZ alumnae chapter presents $6,000 check to Alabama School for Hearing

BIRMINGHAM – The Delta Zeta Birmingham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority met recently at La Catrina Restaurant in Vestavia as Chapter President Glenda Lott, of Hoover, presented a $6,000 check to Harry Wooten, executive vice president of the Alabama Ear Institute, from the profits of the chapter’s fundraiser event Make Some Noise to benefit the Alabama School for Hearing.
The Delta Zeta Birmingham Alumnae Chapter is made up of Delta Zeta sorority alumnae from various universities who now reside in the Birmingham area including Shelby County.
Delta Zeta Sorority’s national philanthropy is speech and hearing.
Make Some Noise is an annual fundraising project for the Delta Zeta Birmingham Alumnae to help the local community by supporting the Alabama School for Hearing, which features a pre-school program of the Alabama Ear Institute for children ages 3 through 5 who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The event, held on Saturday, Aug. 29 at Cahaba Grand Conference Center, featured a gameday fashion show, luncheon, wine lottery and a silent auction.
Fashions were provided by Shena Birdsong of Hoover from Gameday Girl Stuff, a wholesale boutique distributor of non-collegiate licensed ladies apparel for gameday events.
Models were from the community and the Alabama School for Hearing.
University of Alabama mascot Big AL made an appearance for photos.
Local alumna Janet Hall of Fox 6 News provided the entertainment.
The fundraising chairman for Make Some Noise was Toni Vaughn of Chelsea. Liz Estes of Vestavia Hills is the Delta Zeta vice president for fundraising and philanthropy.
Those attending the fall meeting were Angela Smith, Linda McPhillips, Mary Beth Harrison, Tamara Harrison, Christina Carl, Carol Medders, Sherri Mewbourne, Karley Nemeth, Emily Roberts and Nancy Harper.
