FROM STAFF REPORTS

DADE CITY, Fla. – Strong winds and a tough course challenged the Lady Falcons’ women’s golf team in the Saint Leo Invitational on Oct. 19-20. The Lady Falcons were able to regain ground on day two of the tournament to finish in fifth place on Tuesday.

The Lady Falcons were led by Elaine Wood who shot a two-over-par 144.

Wood shot a 1-under in the final round, after shooting 3-over on day one, to force a playoff.  After ending the invitational tied for first place, Wood and Marie Coors of St. Leo headed back to the 18th hole for a playoff.  Wood finished the hole with a bogey and Coors shot birdie for the win.

The Lady Falcons also had two other players finish in the Top-30.  Arin Eddy ended the day tied for 23rd place while Emily Romkey came in 26th.

Eddy shot five-over par in the final round to finish plus-12 while Romkey finished +13 in the invitational.

The Lady Falcons came back from a day one finish that saw them in 10th place to rally back and take the fifth spot in the invitational.  As a team the Lady Falcons finished with a 45-over par after shooting a plus-17 in the final round.

Despite the wind and challenges faced by Montevallo, Coach Justin Pratt was pleased with how his team responded.

“We grinded today in some very tough wind and on a tough course,” Pratt said. “We didn’t play our best but we fought in the end on the last stretch of holes to get a couple shots back and finish solo fifth.”

The Lady Falcons will be back on the course next week when they head to St. Augustine, Fla. for the Flagler Fall Slam on October 26-27.
