NORTH SHELBY—A two-vehicle accident of U.S. 280 involving a tractor trailer resulted in one fatality and left two injured on Oct. 20.
Jordan Alexa Mays, 25, of Birmingham, was killed when a 2000 International tractor trailer struck the 2008 Honda CR-V she was driving. The tractor trailer was driven by Chassidy Renae Garner-James, 39, or Holly Springs, Miss., according to a news release from the State Trooper Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred near the intersection of U.S. 280 and Shelby County 280 at around 8:17 a.m. on Oct. 20, ALEA Trooper Chuck Daniels said.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies and officers from the multi-jurisdictional traffic homicide unit reported to the scene of the accident.
Mays was pronounced dead at the scene. The Honda CR-V was also carrying an infant, who was injured and transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham for treatment. James also sustained injuries from the collision and was transported to Grandview Medical Center.
“Once we got a report on the fatality, we called the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency immediately,” SCSO Deputy Debbie Sumrall said.
