Cecil William Lawley of Pea Ridge, affectionately known as “Pop”, passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, at the age of 85.
C.W. was a United States Air Force Veteran serving September 1948-August 1970 as a Master Sergeant during his final enlistment. He also served as a member of the Silver Haired legislature for Shelby County, Ala. He was the founder of the Pea Ridge Volunteer fire department and an active member of the board. C.W. was also a valued member of Fraternal Order of Police and various other community and volunteer initiatives.
C.W. enjoyed gospel music, Pea Ridge Senior Citizens gatherings, singing and other activities, spending time with his family, praising the Lord, and eating good food, particularly ice cream.
He is survived by his self titled “perfect family” consisting of wife, Tommie Lawley; sister, Mary Ross; brothers, Bobby Lawley and Clifford Lawley; three sons, Dane (wife Tania), Darrell(wife Missy), and Tracey Lawley (wife Lisa); and grandchildren, Sabrina, Kent, Brittani, Aaron, Heather, and namesake Cecil David Lawley.
He is preceded by father, Cecil Wilmer Lawley; mother, Gladys Lawley; and siblings, Wilner Thompson, Jaunita Pickett, Demerle Goggins, J.T. Lawley, Betty Harper, and Reginald “Chief” Lawley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pea Ridge Senior Citizens Club or the Pea Ridge Fire Department.
Visitation for C.W. was Monday, Aug. 10 at Charter Funeral Home in Calera. The funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 11 at the Charter Funeral home chapel with interment at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
