COLUMBIANA – The facility that formerly served as home to Elastic Corporation of America will go to auction April 30, with John Dixon & Associates marketing the property and managing the event.
“This is a well-known location because as recently as 2006, Elastic Corporation of American was reportedly the 11th biggest employer in Shelby County,” Dixon, president of the auction company, wrote in a press release. “That year, the company closed the Columbiana facility and moved its operations to Central America. We’re hoping that a new owner can once again make it a productive part of the local economy.”
Located at 455 Alabama 70 in Columbiana, the facility sits on 9.05 acres and has more than 292,000 square feet of floor space, with 9,748 square feet of office space.
It is steel and masonry construction with metal halide lighting and ceilings from 14-30 feet.
“Not so long ago, the plant employed at least 230 people,” Dixon said. “It has been sitting empty long enough, and it’s time to get it back into the hands of someone with the resources and vision to establish it as the home for an existing or new company or companies.”
The auction will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, at the property, with live and Internet simulcast bidding.
