The Teen Advisory Board of the Columbiana Public Library is a group of teenagers that meet and help in the library in a variety of ways.
Recently in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, the teens helped Staff Librarian Martha Young give a Dr. Seuss party for small children.
Shelby County High School students Faryn Fryer and Landon Bentley read Dr. Seuss books, helped with crafts and enjoyed refreshments, a Dr. Seuss cake and drinks, with children who attended.
Gabbie Payne, age 6 and a student in Mrs. Beasley’s class at Elvin Hill Elementary School attended the Dr. Seuss party at the library.
“I loved picking out my book,” said Payne. “I love having my picture taken.”
The party was a huge success and the board plans to have more in the future.
New members are needed and wanted for the Teen Advisory Board.
Columbiana Public Library new Executive Director Tom Rary is looking to renew and expand the board especially with the Summer Reading Program, Superheroes, in the works.
Twyla Fryer, SGA sponsor, has been the liaison with SCHS.
Teen Advisory Board members are: Joci Smith, Molly Morris, Tyler Morris, Kobe Martin, Wade White, Chip Nash, Savannah Brown, Joshua Holland, Fryer and Bentley.
All board members attend Shelby County High School except Brown, who is home-schooled.
In the past, the Teen Board under the leadership of former director Dutcha Lawson who formed the board has met and planned teenage program, helped with children’s programs as Dr. Seuss, and helped with teen programs with Summer Reading.
For more information on the board or to join, call Rary at (205) 669-5812.
