Montevallo man charged with elderly abuse and neglect

COLUMBIANA–A 37-year-old Montevallo man was arrested for elderly abuse and neglect and second-degree domestic violence after allegedly striking a family member with a walking stick and hot water on March 7 according to his arrest warrant.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office arrested Marquis Lynn Harris, who lists an address on Nelson Walker Circle in Montevallo, on March 17 on two Class B felony charges of elderly abuse and neglect and second-degree domestic violence.
According to Harris’ arrest warrant, the incident took place on March 7 when Harris allegedly “intentionally abused or neglected an elderly person and the abuse or neglect caused physical injury to the person. Harris struck the victim with a walking stick and hot water.”
Harris has previously been charged with third-degree elderly abuse and neglect according to his arrest warrant.
Harris remains in the Shelby County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
Elderly abuse and neglect and second-degree domestic violence are both Class B felonies and each charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
