Pelham police engage in vehicular pursuit

Pelham- A police chase in Pelham Jan. 7 ended in a foot pursuit with no arrest after officers received a call about a vehicle being stolen from the R and J Food Mart located at 2774 Pelham Parkway.
The vehicle was a silver Chevrolet Avalanche and was last seen exiting the parking lot of R and J Food Mart parking lot heading north on U.S. 31 toward Hoover, according to a Pelham Police Department press release.
Shortly after, a Pelham police officer spotted the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop with a back-up car with a back-up unit, at which point the vehicle fled from the officers.
The stolen vehicle fled to Hoover U.S. 31 and then turned around, returning to Pelham.
The stolen vehicle came to a stoplight at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Valleydale Road, where it struck an occupied Pelham Police car in an attempt to get around traffic.
The vehicle continued to flee from police until the driver abandoned the vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near Loveman Village Housing Project in Birmingham. The driver of the stolen vehicle then fled on foot.
Pelham and Birmingham police searched for the driver of the stolen vehicle after they lost sight of him during the foot pursuit, but the driver was not found.
One Pelham police vehicle sustained damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
The investigation into the stolen vehicle is ongoing.
